When I was almost 12, our form went on an outing to Wimbledon Common, to do our bit
as part of a nationwide project entitled: "Give a day, make a difference". At the time,
the Wombles were all the rage, so it seemed appropriate that we should be chosen to make
our difference by giving our day over to picking up litter on the common. Wombles' creator
Elizabeth Beresford came to give us her moral support. My head (dark hair with
side-parting) and nose are visible mid-way down on the far right of the photo.
